Studio School Life

The emphasis is very much on community at the Studio School and students arrive at ‘work’ each morning to the offer of a healthy breakfast served up by our very own SugarAM in the Studio School’s student common room. Staffed by students from the Sugar Personal Coach group, the club also operates as a business, with all purchasing and accounting conducted by Year 10 students. At break and lunch time students are able to relax in the comfortable environment, playing pool or simply relaxing, reading the selection of daily papers and weekly magazines.

At lunch time students can choose between the College’s refectory, where a selection of hot and cold foods can be purchased at very reasonable prices, or Cafe B adjacent to the Studio School and which opens for 10.00am to 1.30 daily, serving food and drink freshly prepared by the college’s catering students and staff.

The curriculum is wide and varied for all students, but in addition the Studio School offers a varied enrichment programme including:

  • Enterprising Entrepreneurs

  • Gaming Live

  • Nail and Beauty Club

  • Table Tennis Club

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

Personal Coaching Groups

The Personal Coaching group, of which there are currently three – Sugar, Caan and Branson, is a cornerstone of the Studio school concept. On entry each student is placed within a vertically structured group of up to 15 students taken from each year in the academy. Keeping these groups low in numbers allows the Personal Coach, who is the key link between home and the academy, to deliver a personalised level of support and intervention to ensure that individuals are guided towards achieving agreed personal, social and academic targets. Weekly scheduled 1:1 reflection sessions are used to review progress and discuss and agree targets.
